Description

The CP4C initiative brings together Canada's academic community and federal scientists in Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), including the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis (CCCma). It aims to make the Canadian Earth System Model (CanESM) usable by a broad research community. Under CP4C, CanESM has been made more portable and tested on various systems, including commercial cloud and Digital Research Alliance of Canada (DRAC) machines.

CP4C welcomes new members and collaborators from Canadian institutions who are interested in working with CanESM for their research. We provide researchers with access to CanESM resources on DRAC machines. The current version is available for use on the Niagara cluster located at the University of Toronto.

Participants in CP4C can use CanESM along with these resources to study various physical and biogeochemical phenomena, such as radiative transfer, water vapour, aerosols, and greenhouse gas emissions.

CanESM is the federal Canadian contributor to the World Climate Research Program's Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), which, in turn, provides scientific input to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Assessment Reports and many applications in climate prediction.

Overview

Links to various resources can be found in the top navigation bar of this website. The Wiki link navigates to the GitLab wiki for the CP4C project group. This wiki contains information about our workshops, policies, technical reports, available resources, as well as a FAQ. Additionally, the wiki contains a record of meeting minutes from previous CP4C working group meetings.

The Project Tracking link in the navigation bar links to the GitLab issue tracker, where various tasks, issues, and research projects are recorded and described. Feature requests, bugs, issues, and project proposals may be submitted to the issue tracker for consideration.

Contact

CP4C has mailings lists, a slack channel, and biweekly Teams meetings. To get involved, please contact us at contact.cp4c@gmail.com.

If you have questions about CanESM or its components, feel free to reach out to the above email and we will direct you to the correct person.

For feature requests, new projects, bug reports, and similar topics, please use the GitLab issue tracker to create a new issue. The issue tracker provides a variety of templates and allows us to keep the project organized. Within an issue, additional child items can be created in order to track progress on smaller tasks.
